Olivia Rodrigo has been in the public eye since she was a little girl. Olivia participated in commercials like ones from American Girl doll and Old Navy, until she landed major leading roles in Disney. Olvia played leading roles in both Bizaardvark and High School Musical, The musical the series. Over time Olivia turned her acting career to music and became one of the biggest popstars amongst young girls. Olvia not only has impacted young girls with heart touching lyrics that they are able to relate to, she also chooses to speak out on social problems amongst reproductive rights, women's/girls' health, and civic engagement.
For many teens, Olivia’s songwriting is often centered on heartbreak, insecurity, and self-reflection—feels deeply relatable. Arianna Ellison, a senior visual artist at Cooperative Arts and Humanities High School, recalls first discovering Olivia as an actress rather than a singer. “I didn’t start knowing about Olivia because of her singing, but because of her acting, especially in Bizaardvark. Then during COVID in 2021, I heard she started making music... the first song I listened to was ‘Favorite Crime’ and I knew from then on she would definitely be one of my top favorite artists.”
Young girls around the world fell in love with Olivia's lyricism, making Olivia one of the greatest popstars, with her debut album Sour being the second best- selling album of the year. Olivias has really made an impact on young girls mostly by validating their intense emotions and making them feel seen by her songs like pretty isn’t pretty and Lacy. She has also promoted therapy and reproductive rights, she not only uses to help girls on an emotional level but also by finding ways to help any women and young girls around the world that might be struggling by collaborating with shelters and donating a percentage of her earnings.
Olivia Rodrigo's Fund 4 Good is a global initiative committed to building an equitable and just future for women and girls. A portion of Olivia's earnings from the GUTS world tour ticket sales go towards Fund 4 Good. Olivia Rodrigo pattern with the local chapter of the National Network of Abortion Funds to ensure those most impacted by systemic racism, misogyny and the new healthcare barriers. Are able to get the proper reproductive care they need.
Olivia did not just stop there, during the European leg of the GUTS Tour Olivia supported Women Against Violence Europe by collaboration with WAVE’s helping women and their children to live free from violence. Throughout every leg of the tour Olivia stopped at Women's Shelters and helped young girls and Women, some other of the organizations she collaborated with were Women's Shelters Canada, Pratthanadee Foundation(Thailand), NPO Women's Saya-Saya (Japan), Jhpiego (Philippines) and Wesnet (Australia). Overall Olvia Rodrigo donated over $2 million amongst all these organizations distributed through Fund 4 Good.
Arianna expressed how much she admires this side of Olivia’s work: “You know someone is a good artist when they want to make a change in the world no matter how small it is… It speaks volumes about the type of person she is.” She explains that Olivia’s activism makes her appreciate the artist not just for her music, but for the way she responsibly uses her platform. Overall Olivia Rodrigo represents so much more than just being a pop star. She has become the voice for many teenage girls, she acknowledges their problems while also advocating for their rights and well-being.
